Glasgow CIL is a user-controlled organisation committed to promoting inclusive living by assisting disabled people to challenge barriers and make informed choices. We do this by delivering a range of high quality services that aim to equip disabled people with the information, skills, and support necessary to control our own lives.
GCIL is the most successful user led disability organisation in Scotland
RIGHT PEOPLE, RIGHT HOUSING, RIGHT CHOICES
In Scotland it is estimated there is a need for 230,000 additional properties suitable for disabled people and their families. Research indicates there are 62,000 households requiring specially adapted baths or showers and an additional 8000 households who need a ramp. In Glasgow GCIL Accessible Housing Solutions currently has a waiting list of over 400 disabled people in
housing need. GCIL Accessible Housing Solutions has been working
to tackle the chronic housing problem in Glasgow by gathering information on people’s needs, information on accessible properties, and developing data-bases to enable faster and more efficient matching of people to
properties.
This one-day event in Glasgow showcased examples of best practice by GCIL Accessible Housing Solutions, and was the official launch of its new online accessible housing register for disabled people. The conference provided a great opportunity to learn and network with peers throughout Scottish Housing, and had a programme offering keynote plenaries, interactive skill based sessions and exchange sessions.
